The Versova police on Sunday recorded the statement of film producer Sanjay Gupta, who was booked for cheating and forgery for misusing the name of the Mumbai Police Commissioners Office on an invitation card to promote his film Shootout At Wadala.
The Versova police had earlier issued summons to Gupta, asking him to present himself within 48 hours to explain his side of the case, and to find out how people were involved in making the card and distributing it. The invitation cards had the rubber stamp of the Mumbai Police Commissioners office and said that the city police commissioner will be present at the launch and will speak on the crime record of the city.
According to the Versova police,Gupta claimed that the invitation card was designed by his creative team and that it was not the Police Commissioners name in the card, but of the man who was playing the role of commissioner in the movie. He also said there was a disclaimer on the card.
Pratap Dighavkar,Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone 9,said that since the card was distributed among the general public and not just within the film fraternity,it constituted an offence.
On March 3,the Sessions Court had granted anticipatory bail to Gupta.
