Admitting that the governments efforts on the skill development front have so far been rather tentative,Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday asked all key ministries to pull up their socks. He asked them to scale up their skill development programmes and propose ambitious skilling initiatives in the 12th Plan.
At a meeting of the PMs National Council on Skill Development,he took stock of the progress of the initiatives and the targets. Sources said he directed that an ambitious target of 85 lakh be set for the next fiscal.
Singh said the NSDC and all ministries put together will be able to train around 40 lakh people this fiscal while we need to train around 8 crore people in next 5 years.
