Known for producing reality TV shows,Endemol is all set to venture into making Hindi films. And as their first project,the company is working on the Hindi remake of the Malayalam hit thriller,Traffic,which released in January 2011 and is considered to be one of the highest-grossing Malayalam projects so far this year. While various other production houses were trying to acquire the rights for the film,Endemol won the race. The film is still in the initial stage of its making and will be directed by Rajesh Pillai,who was also the director of the original version. FTII films bag National awards The student films made by the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) have bagged five National Awards at the 58th National Film Awards declared recently. The Best Direction award went to Arunima Sharma for her film Shyam Raat Seher. She bagged the Swarna Kamal and cash prize of Rs. 1,50,000. The film also won Best Cinematography award for Murli G. Another FTII student film,Kal 15 August Dukan Band Rahegi,directed by Pratik Vats,has won the Best Short Fiction award,with Rajat Kamal and a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 each to the Producer and Director. Theft at Salma Aghas residence A domestic servant was arrested in connection with the theft of three diamond-studded gold rings and a wrist watch collectively worth Rs 5 lakh from the house of singer and film actress Salma Agha in Mumbai. The 49-year-old popular singer from Pakistan discovered the theft of her valuables,following which her domestic servant,Sambhaji Shirke,was held. Film Bazaar for screenwriters With the aim of promoting cinema in India,the National Film Development Corporation Ltd. (NFDC) and Binger Film Lab will conduct Screenwriters Lab 2011,a workshop that encourages students to write original screenplays. The workshop will also aid students with the sale of their screenplays in International markets. The first session is to be held at the Venice International Film Festival in September and the second session will be held at Film Bazaar,Goa from November 24-27. The workshop will be conducted by Marten Rabarts,Artistic Director of Binger Filmlab. The applications are available at www.filmbazaarindia.com.
