Will file poll petition if Sangma loses

New Delhi: A day after the Election Commission rejected its petition seeking intervention in the Presidential election process,P A Sangmas camp on Wednesday decided to concentrate on his campaign and file an election petition if the former Lok Sabha Speaker loses the race. The decision was taken at a meeting at the residence of Rajya Sabha MP Ram Jethmalani. We have examined the ECs order and Returning Officers order in detail. The Commission has not rejected our petition on merits of the case,but on the issue of jurisdiction,which lies with the Supreme Court. A remedy can only be sought after the results are announced, said Sangmas authorised representative Satya Pal Jain. We hope Sangmaji will win8230; In case he loses,we will file an election petition, he added. There are seven instances in the past when an election petition has been filed after the Presidential election.

Centre doling out packages to influence votes

LUCKNOW: Sangma on Wednesday alleged that the UPA government was misusing the Central investigative agencies and giving financial packages to states to influence and collect votes for its nominee,Pranab Mukherjee. He said the Centre was giving special packages to Bihar to get the votes of JDU MLAs and MPs. Besides meeting the BJP MLAs,Sangma also appealed to other members of the electoral college to support him,irrespective of their political parties. This election will be historic as the electors will vote according to their conscience, he said.

Jharkhand: No tribal support yet for Sangma

Ranchi: Despite highlighting his tribal identity,P A Sangma on Wednesday got no assurances from tribal leaders in Jharkhand. In fact,Sangmas claim that Jharkhand Mukti Morcha chief Shibu Soren had extended support to his candidature was rebutted later by son and Deputy Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Sangma later clarified that Shibu Sorens support was a personal one.
