The South Andaman police have busted a narcotics trafficking racket, confiscating 32 kg of ganja the biggest haul so far in the union territory

The South Andaman police have busted a narcotics trafficking racket, confiscating 32 kg of ganja the biggest haul so far in the union territory.

Seven persons have been arrested under the relevant provisions of the Narcotics Drugs and Substances Act,according to the police.

The crackdown followed a stringent vigil of a suspected courier network by a gang of peddlers, who used domestic water to traffic the contraband from Chennai to Andaman.

Acting on a tip-off,a special team of officials of police station Aberdeen in South Andaman conducted a raid in Junglighat area Saturday and reportedly intercepted seven persons with ganja, which was brought through a shipping container from Chennai for peddling through local drug dealers.

We are looking at this as a major success in preventing narcotics from entering Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Our vigil had resulted in detection of two cases this year, said Chinmoy Biswal,SP,South Andaman.
