Former chief minister and AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh was injured in his hometown Rajgarh on Tuesday during a protest by Congress activists over inadequate electricity and BJP governments alleged anti-farmer policies.
The Congress activists resorted to stone pelting when the police prevented them from entering the collectorate premises. One of the stones hit Singh on the head. He was taken to a hospital and needed two stitches.
A government spokesman said a stone pelted by the Congress activists hit the senior leader while the party alleged that he was injured in a cane charge.
Congress spokesman K K Mishra alleged that the attack on Singh was premeditated. He claimed in the past few days, collectors, who owed their promotions to the ruling party, were resorting to force to quell protests by the opposition party.
Incidentally,Singh had on Monday announced that he would contest the 2013 election in the state. After the Congress defeat in 2003,he had announced that he would not contest any election for the next decade.
