Defending induction of defectors from other parties into the Congress,Union Minister Salman Khursheed recently compared his party with the Ganga,which is believed to purge the sins of whoever takes a dip in it. The Ganga,he further added,cannot be blamed for their sins. But the comment flew in his face the next day when the partys crisis managers failed to convince recent entrant Beni Prasad Verma to apologise for his pejorative remark against former prime minister A B Vajpayee in the Lok Sabha. Finally,Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had to apologise for his party colleagues remarks. Verma,however,was far from remorseful. Last heard he was boasting to colleagues how he was getting congratulatory calls from Dubai,Saudi Arabia and Kuwait from people he had not heard from for decades. As for the Congress,it had to bear with the Gonda MP in the absence of any other credible Kurmi leader in the party.
