Dalit youth: Another team to examine body

After reviewing the autopsy video of Dalit youth Ilavarasan, the Madras High Court Wednesday sought one final opinion from another team

After reviewing the autopsy video of Dalit youth Ilavarasan, the Madras High Court Wednesday sought one final opinion from another team of independent experts. It asked them to examine the body to see if there was anything suspicious that warrants a second autopsy. The examination will be conducted on Thursday and report would be submitted to HC by Friday.

A Division Bench of HC had on Tuesday set up a panel of forensic experts to review the video of the first post-mortem. Barring Dr V Dekal, the family representative, all others said there was no need for a second autopsy. The experts said there were flaws in the procedure, but nothing was serious enough to recommend a re-examination. But Dekal said another autopsy would help the police arrive at the truth faster.

Ilavarasan was found dead on the railway tracks in Dharmapuri last Thursday. His marriage with an upper-caste girl and their separation had a communal impact, raising doubts of foul play. The autopsy report said it was suicide. A note purportedly recovered by the police three days after his death, backed the suicide angle. But Ilavarasans family was not convinced.
