A Dalit rape victim committed suicide on Wednesday after she was allegedly threatened and told to settle for a compromise in the case in Mubarakpur area of UPs Azamgarh district.
Azamgarh SP Bhagwan Swaroop said Priyanka,18,of Piyropur village,was allegedly raped by Guddu Yadav and Rajesh Ram of the same village on December 21. Yadav was caught from the spot and the other accused were arrested subsequently. Yadav was in hospital for 20 days as he was assaulted by the locals.
The victims father has alleged in his complaint that Yadav threatened Priyanka and told ger to settle for a compromise or she and her family would face dire consequences.
A case of abetment to suicide has been registered,police said on Wednesday.
