Cycling his way across America

The 42-year-old computer engineer,who took to long distance cycling at a tender age of 10,is a man on mission,the ultimate challenge being to complete one of the world8217;s toughest race 8212; Race Across America RAAM8211; within 10 days.

8220;I completed the race in just over 12 days the cut off time last year,but this time my aim is to finish the race in 10 days,8221; Samim said over phone.

When asked to describe his earlier experience,the cyclist quipped it is a real 8220;nightmare8221;.

8220;It is insanity,what you go through those 10-12 days.8221;

Then why does he want to compete in the race once again,8221;it is a matter of pride for me8221; pat came the reply.

The RAAM,is an ultra marathon bicycle race across the United States,approximately 4,800km,starting from the West Coast and ending up at the East Coast of the country.

Samim is the only Indian and third Asian solo racer to complete the RAAM and he takes pride of his achievement.

But at the same time the rider laments the lack of recognition.

8220;Cycling is an expensive sport and you need sponsors to back you. Whenever I approach someone they are very receptive to start with but they all end up with the perception that I am a mad man,who wants to take the risk of competing in the RAAM once again.

8220;The only support which I have is from my two sons,for whom I am a hero,8221; reveals Samim.
