The Kota police arrested two police constables on Saturday for the rape and murder of a woman constable on Wednesday night within the premises of a police station in Kota.
The arrested constables were produced in court and remanded in police custody till October 4 while the staff of the entire police station has been transferred to the police lines.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has ordered a probe by an additional director general of police,and has also announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the victims family.
Senior police officials said the accused,cook Tulsi Ram and beat constable Desh Raj,had entered the victims room within the premises of the Chechat Police Station late on Wednesday night,saying they wanted to watch television,and then locked the room and assaulted her.
The duo then killed her and fled from the scene of crime.
Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal on Saturday stated that the entire staff of the police station have been transferred to police lines and new personnel have taken over.
He also promised a government job to a member of the victims family.
Villagers from nearby areas had protested outside the police station on Friday evening,demanding the arrest of the accused and police.
With anger running high,a senior police officer said they were keeping the two accused in another police station for the duration of the remand for their own safety.
