Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and his Cabinet colleagues,including controversial minister Antasio Monserrate,are among those who figure in the first Congress list of candidates for the Goa Assembly polls to be held on March 3.

The Congress is contesting 33 of the 40 seats and its alliance partner NCP the rest.

Education Minister Monserrate,who was detained at the Mumbai airport last year for allegedly carrying foreign currency beyond permissible limits,will contest from St Cruz instead of his earlier constituency of Taleigao.

Besides the nine Congress ministers,Speaker Pratapsinh Rane,state Congress chief Subhash Shirodkar and Panaji Mayor Yatin Parekh figure in the first list.

Kamat,Home Minister Ravi Naik,Health Minister Vishwajit Rane,PWD Minister Churchill Alemao,Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao and Forest Minister Filipe Nery Rodriques will contest from their earlier constituencies.

Two BJP MLAs Dayanand Sopte and Rajesh Patnekar,who had recently joined the Congress,have also been given tickets in their respective constituencies.

Youth Affairs Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar will contest the election from Pernem instead of his earlier constituency of Dhargolim while Power and Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira will contest from Nuvem,instead of Loutolim segment.
