Charging the BJP with horse-trading in Karnataka, former prime minister and Janata Dal(S) leader H D Deve Gowda here on Monday demanded the dismissal of the B S Yeddyurappa Government.
I had dismissed the Chhabildas Mehta Government in Gujarat in similar circumstances during my prime ministership after Shankersinh Vaghela had rebelled (against the BJP regime), Deve Gowda said while addressing the media.
Seeking an immediate intervention by the Congress,he said: I appeal to the Congress to join hands with us for a united fight before the BJP sinks the secular parties through its Operation Lotus a unique strategy for luring MLAs of opposition parties.
The JD(S) leader said he has been trying to get the Congress on board with this idea, but the ruling party at the Centre apparently wanted to keep the principal opposition party in good humour so that it could run both Houses of Parliament smoothly. No wonder then that the Lok Sabha had not discussed illegal mining despite a notice by him.
This will be the darkest Diwali in Karnatakas history, Deve Gowda said, pointing out that the Congress tally in the Karnataka Assembly had come down to 71 from 79,thanks to horse-trading.
The strength of his own JD(S) was one down, from 29. He claimed that the one JD(S) MLA who had quit his Assembly seat had been abducted and taken to Gujarat.
When asked how could the Congress come together with the JD(S) given the fact that he had brought down the Congress-led government headed by N Dharam Singh, the former prime minister said he had explained the whole issue in the right perspective during a discussion in the last Lok Sabha. I had to withdraw support because both Congress and BJP were trying to finish my party, Deve Gowda said.
