CM runs check on security lapses

The CM reviewed the functioning of the security grid at the meeting.

A day after the twin terrorist attacks at Hiranagar and Samba,senior officers of all the security,police and intelligence agencies,besides civil administration,Friday held a meeting to discuss the lapses that led to the attacks.

The issues pertaining to security along the international border and lack of coordination between various state agencies also came up for discussion at the three-hour meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

They discussed questions like how the terrorists manage to sneak into the Indian side,and whether the second attack on the Army camp at Samba could have been averted had the police in Kathua district sounded the alert on time.

The CM reviewed the functioning of the security grid at the meeting. Top brass of the Army,security forces,police and civil administration apprised the CM of the details of operations conducted to combat terrorist attacks.

Earlier in the morning,Omar paid his last respects to slain soldier Inder Singh whose body was flown to his native place in Rajasthan.

Senior BSF officers visited the international border in Paharpur area later during the day to personally assess how the terrorists had managed to sneak into the Indian territory from Pakistan.
