Chirag should earn a name for himself, says Paswan

Paswan said while he had thought Chirag would campaign for him in the 2014 polls, party functionaries wanted a bigger role for him

After RJD president Lalu Prasad recently launched his youngest son Tejaswi into active politics, now LJP chief Ramvilas Paswan has also launched his son Chirag and made him the chairman of the party’s parliamentary board.

Chirag (30) has a BTech degree and has starred in the film Mile Na Mile Hum. On one hand, the young leader decided to bring the party on social networking sites,on the other he wants to learn various dialects spoken in Bihar so as to connect with the common people.

Paswan said while he had thought Chirag would campaign for him in the 2014 polls, party functionaries wanted a bigger role for him. “I do not want him to be my shadow. He should be able to earn a name for himself in a matter of few months,” Paswan said.

But Chirag first wants people of the state to know him. “I have already visited sites of Bagaha police firing and midday meal tragedy. I will start travelling across the state from September,” Chirag said, giving thumbs down to the idea of going on a rath to meet people. “This is an important phase in Bihar politics. Nitish Kumar, who had been with the BJP for 17 years, claims to have become secular all of a sudden,” Chirag said.

The first job before Chirag is to make appointments to the 31-member party parliamentary board and subsequently form committees, including the election campaign committee.

A Delhi Air Force School alumnus,Chirag said he wants to take up issues of education and migration. “One may say that I am yet another son in politics but it is talent that matters. I followed my guts and took to politics, something I have been used to see since my childhood,” he said.

Chirag, who is Rahul Gandhi’s neighbour in Delhi, said Rahul’s best quality is “the art of not reacting to public criticism”. While Ramvilas Paswan had been in favour of a pre-poll alliance with Congress,Chirag is already advocating Rahul Gandhi for the PM post.
