Khap panchayats not legal: Hooda

Breaking his silence on the khap panchayat issue,Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday said these gatherings have no legal status and the state government would not let them take law into their hands.

Khap panchayats have no legal sanctity, Hooda told the media outside Yojana Bhawan, adding that historically they were informal social organisations like NGOs.

As far as the Haryana government is concerned,if anybody does anything good for a social cause,we welcome it,but nobody will be allowed to take law into his hands, he said.

Khap panchayats, according to Hooda, have their views and we have our own views.
