Central Bank net trebles

Central Bank of Indias net profit nearly trebled to Rs 171.6 crore during the quarter ended march 2010 from Rs 63 crore in the year-ago period.

Central Bank of Indias net profit nearly trebled to Rs 171.6 crore during the quarter ended march 2010 from Rs 63 crore in the year-ago period. The bank8217;s total income in the period rose to Rs 3,723.9-crore from Rs 3,150-crore in the same period last year.

The bank clocked a 85 per cent growth in its net profit in full FY 10 at Rs 1,058 crore as against Rs 571 crore in the year-ago period. Its gross income rose 19 per cent in FY 10 at Rs 13,799 crore as against Rs 11,525-crore in the year-ago period. Its net interest income expanded 14.2 per cent at Rs 2,545 crore as against Rs 2,228 crore in the year-ago period. The lender8217;s net NPAs fell to Rs 727 crore as at end-March 2010 from Rs 1,063 crore in the year-ago period. Last financial year our credit growth was 23.5 per cent. This year our credit growth should be at least 25 per cent,higher than the industry average, Central Bank chairman and managing director S Sridhar told reporters here today.

Idea Cellular Q4 net up 4 pc

MUMBAI: Idea Cellular has reported an increase of 4.56 per cent in its consolidated net profit at Rs 266.61 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31,2010,over the same period last year,helped by other income,but stiff price competition in a crowded market continue to weigh on the sectors outlook. The company had a net profit Rs 254.96 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 2008-09.
