The CBI on Monday gave a presentation to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on the Haren Pandya murder case.
The agency is planning to file a special leave petition SLP before the Supreme Court challenging the Gujarat High Court order which acquitted 12 people of murder charges in the case.
Sources said that during the presentation,which lasted for nearly half-an-hour,the CBI investigation team detailed the grounds for filing the SLP. The team,which was accompanied by a legal expert,is learnt to have submitted to the Home Minister a report about the entire case.
The Union Home Ministry is learnt to have referred the matter for legal opinion before going to the apex court.
Many in the probe agency were of the view that the petition should not be filed,but later senior officers decided to go ahead with the petition, said a CBI official.
Pandya was shot dead on the morning of March 26,2003 at close range in Law Garden area of Ahmedabad. Pandyas wife has sought a reinvestigation into the case.
