CBI gets Malaysias response on Maran

The CBI has received replies from the Malaysian authorities in connection with its probe in the Aircel-Maxis deal involving former telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran. The documents received by the agency prima facie indicates that foreign exchange rules were allegedly violated and tweaked to favour Maxis,said officials.

The agency said that they have sought further clarification from Malaysian authorities and plan to question Maran soon. The CBI said that a chargesheet will be filed in the case. The response from the Malaysia authorities has helped the agency in consolidating its probe so far,said officials.

In 2011,the CBI had registered a case against Dayanidhi and Kalanidhi Maran,executives of Maxis Ralph Marshall and T Anandkrishnan,besides three companies for the alleged graft. The probe agency claims that quid pro quo on the part of the then telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran has been established during the probe. It has also been proved that files of former Aircel chief Sivasankaran were deliberately delayed,sources said.
