Cancellation of 2G licences a bolt from the blue: Birla

Aditya Birla Group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla said that the cancellation of nine telecom licenses of its flagship telecom arm Idea Cellular came as a bolt from the blue and the company will be taking recourse to rectify the situation

Aditya Birla Group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla on Tuesday said that the cancellation of nine telecom licenses of its flagship telecom arm Idea Cellular came as a bolt from the blue and the company will be taking recourse to rectify the situation.

This has come as a bolt from the blue, Birla said at a Nasscom function. Our case is completely different from the others. The Supreme Court on February 2 cancelled 122 licenses of eight telecom companies which included nine licenses of Idea Cellular. The court has left it to the telecom regulator Trai to create a road-map for re-auction of the spectrum. However,Idea had applied for telecom licences in the year 2006,but was given the spectrum in 2008 along with the other new entrants in the sector.
