The government has decided to reduce satellite phone call charges for personnel of the paramilitary forces serving in border areas throughout the country. The decision to bring down the rate from Rs 5 to Rs 1 per minute was taken after the matter was taken up by Minister of State for Communications amp; Information Technology Sachin Pilot after his visit to border areas in the Northeast.
We felt this was the least we could do to boost their morale and mark our respect and appreciation towards our brave jawans, Pilot said. The decision will benefit personnel from Central Paramilitary Forces like the ITBP,BSF and SSB who have been posted at the border and for whom the only mode of civilian communication in many such areas are satellite phones provided by BSNL.
