Though disapproving of UP Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshis alleged derogatory remarks against UP Chief Minister Mayawati, the Samajwadi Party on Thursday found itself in a spot. While Mulayams brother and SP General Secretary Ram Gopal Yadav described the Congress-BSP stand-off as a mock-fight,Mulayams close political aide and party General Secretary Amar Singh urged the Congress not to keep the SP and BSP on the same pedestal.

Notwithstanding the UP CMs allegation of Congress members stagemanaging the burning of Joshis residence,I have definite information about the involvement of one BSP MLA and his goons in the episode. This is high time the Congress stopped keeping the SP and BSP on the same pedestal, Amar told The Indian Exp-ress over the phone from Singapore, where he is recuperating after a kidney transplant.

If the Congress wants the opposition space in UP,they cant possibly take Mayawatis support at the Centre and oppose her on the streets of Lucknow. Its like having your cake and eating it, he added.

While Amars comments indicated only partially the SPs awkward position with the Congresss perceived attempt to be the prime challenger to the Mayawati regime,Ram Gopals statement alleging a mock-fight between the Congress and BSP laid it bare. Both the parties Congress and BSP projecting themselves to oppose each other is a conspiracy to mislead the public. No action by the Centre against the UP Government and the BSP continuing its support to the Congress-led Central government is a clear proof that there is no fight between the two parties and this Rita episode is a mock-fight, said Ram Gopal.
