Comparing the political ideology of the BJP with that of the British rulers,AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Friday said the saffron party was pursuing the divisive politics that was once practised by the British rulers to perpetuate their reign over India.
Addressing Congress workers from all over the state on the conclusion of a month-long Abhay Udaan,Bharat Mahaan programme,Rahul said the divisive politics was based on spreading of fear which is used to divide people and create schism in various sections of society. There was another type of politics which united and brought the people closer. It was based on Mahatma Gandhis philosophy.
It is Gandhijis politics which is the need of the hour, he said, adding that it was the Congress which was practising the politics taught by Gandhiji. Rahul maintained India need not fear anyone. It will stand on its own feet and lead the world, he said. But not with the support of any politician but with the contribution and support of its poor, downtrodden villagers and city dwellers.
Talking about the distance between the people and political leaders in this age of technology,Rahul said when there was no television and internet facility,Gandhiji remained connected with the people by writing lakhs of letters but the gap between the leaders and the people these days was increasing when internet and television had become available everywhere. He stressed the need for removing this gap.
Asserting that Gujarat gave Mahatma Gandhi to the nation and he got freedom for the country, the young leader said,Gandhiji is my guide.
Later, the AICC general secretary administered to the Congress workers an oath of patriotism and an oath of fighting terrorism. He also felicitated several Gujaratis who excelled in their feats, including Hindi film actress Prachi Desai.
Among those who addressed the function were Gujarat party president Siddharth Patel and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Shaktisinh Gohil. Ahmedabad Congress president Pankaj Shah presented a vote of thanks.
