Mass grave in Tripoli with remains of 1,270

TRIPOLI: Libyan authorities Sunday said they have discovered a mass grave with remains of 1,270 people killed by the Gaddafis regime in a June 1996 prison massacre. It was found near Tripolis Abu Salim prison,said Dr Ibrahim Abu Sahima of the committee overseeing the search for victims of the former regime. He said they found the grave two weeks ago after getting information from captured regime officials and witnesses.

Sarkozys aide got kickbacks

Paris: French President Nicolas Sarkozys former aide Thierry Gauberts estranged wife Helene,45,has said her husband,charged in a damaging graft scandal,returned from trips abroad with bags of cash,Le Mode reported. Gaubert and two others have been charged for alleged kickbacks and illegal funding of Edouard Balladurs 1995 presidential campaign. Sarkozy was the campaigns spokesman but insists he had nothing to do with funding.

Filipino troops clash with rebels,14 killed

MANILA: Suspected Muslim militants attacked troops at Talipao town in Sulu,a rebel stronghold in southern Philippines,Sunday,igniting a gunbattle that killed 12 militants and two soldiers,marine commander Col Romeo Tanalgo said. Six soldiers were wounded,he added.

China: Five killed in coal mine cave-in

BEIJING: Five people were killed and two injured after a coal mine shaft caved in in Chinas Yunnan Province Sunday. Sixteen miners escaped but seven were still trapped,an official with the Qilin District said. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Attack on Indonesian church wounds 20

JAKARTA: A suicide bomber attacked an Indonesian church on Sunday,killing himself and wounding at least 20 people,police said. The blast in Solo town occurred just as people were filing out at the end of the service. I saw fiery sparks and a man dead on the ground,his entrails spilling out, a witness,Fani,told Metro TV.
