Sixth swine flu death in Uttarakhand

Dehradun: The swab samples of a person who died last week tested positive for swine flu on Tuesday,taking the total number of deaths due to the disease in Uttarakhand to six. The swab samples of Amit Saxena (35),who died on November 25 tested positive for swine flu,said state nodal officer Pankaj Jain. Meanwhile,swine flu claimed its second victim in Uttar Pradesh with a teacher,Amresh Sinha,succumbing to the virus on Monday.

51-yr-old completes B-Tech after 27 yrs

Jaipur: Fifty-one -year-old Alan Ali Khan got his B-Tech degree after 27 years. Khan,who took admission in BITS Pilani in 1977,had to discontinue his studies due to domestic problems and joined as English teacher in Rajasthan Government Service. In 2007,Khan made a request to the University to re-admit him as a student.

Nine held in UP foodgrain scam

Lucknow: The CBI on Tuesday arrested nine persons including a senior government official for their alleged involvement in the multi-crore foodgrain scam of Uttar Pradesh. Finance Controller of Meerut Development Authority (MDA) Surendra Singh,who was posted as chief finance and accounts officer of the District Rural Development Authority of Ballia at the time of the scam was among those arrested.

Chandigarh scraps film city project

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Administration has scrapped the much publicised Rs 191-crore multimedia-cum-film city project in the city,citing non-payment of earnest money and delayed construction by realty firm Parsvnath Developers.
