Suspension of two Rajasthan BJP MLAs revoked

JAIPUR: Rajasthan Assembly Speaker Deependra Singh Shekhawat on Monday revoked the suspension of two opposition BJP MLAs chief whip Rajendra Singh Rathore and Hanuman Beniwal who were suspended last week from the House for unruly behaviour. The House came to a standstill when on March 17,the BJP accused the ruling Congress on corruption.

Rae Bareli communal violence spreads,12 vehicles torched

RAE BARELI: At least 12 vehicles were set on fire at Deeh and Purelagi late on Sunday as communal violence,which first erupted in Parsadepur town,spread to neighbouring areas in UPs Rae Bareli district,the police said here on Monday,adding that at least 36 people have been arrested so far in connection with the violence.

Three cops killed in road accident

CHANDIGARH: Three policemen,including an assistant sub-inspector,were killed and two injured when the police bus they were travelling in collided with an oil tanker at Dhanekalera village in Punjabs Nawanshahr district,SSP Narinder Bhargav said. One of the injured was critical,he added.

Ropeway trolley collapses,2 hurt

HARDWAR: Two pilgrims were injured when a ropeway trolley they were sitting in collapsed here,police said on Monday. The incident occurred on Sunday night. The two pilgrims a man and a woman were on their way to the Mansa Devi temple. The two have been admitted to a nearby hospital where their condition is stated to be stable. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

Man sets afire wife,children,kills self

LUCKNOW: Haripal,38,allegedly immolated himself after setting ablaze wife Rajkumari,32,son Shekar,2,and daughters Mansi,7,and Deep Shikha,4,at his house in Lucknows Jalalpur area on Sunday,the police said. While Haripal died on the spot,neighbours rushed his family to a nearby hospital where they are said to be critical. Financial crisis is the reason behind the crime, the police said. Haripal had lost his job at a plywood factory a few months ago.  

Jamp;K wants cross-LoC trade period raised

JAMMU: Jamp;K has asked the Centre to allow cross-LoC trade for four days a week instead of the present two,the state Legislative Council was informed on Monday. Industries and Commerce Minister Surjeet Singh Salathia said the state government has recommended to Centre to increase the number of cross-LoC trading days. Union Home Ministry is looking into the matter,he added.

Rs 1,000 a month to war widows

CHANDIGARH: The Haryana government on Monday decided to give financial assistance of Rs 1,000 per month to war widows in the state. The scheme will be only for widows of Army,Navy and Air Force personnel,who were killed in action,and no other family member would be entitled, CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda said.

Aide of Hizbul commander held

JAMMU: Police on Monday claimed to have arrested Wazir Hussain,an associate of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen Pir Panchal Range chief Abdullah Inqalabi,from Narkote-Hansoo Wali Gali in Mahore in Jamp;Ks Reasi district,police said. Two grenades and some literature of the outfit was recovered from Hussain,who was working with Inqalabi for the past eight years,they added.

Mughal road to be opened in June

JAMMU: The historical Mughal Road,the all-weather link between Kashmir and Doda and Kishtwar,will be opened for vehicular traffic in June,Jamp;K Roads and Buildings Minister G M Saroori told the Legislative Council on Monday. Mughal Road will be thrown open partially for the controlled vehicular traffic in mid-2010, Saroori said. PTI
