Abducted Patna NIT student released

PATNA: A student of the National Institute of Technology,Patna,who was allegedly abducted on June 23,was released by his abductors at an isolated place in Patna district on Sunday,police sources said. DSP Law and Order Sushil Kumar claimed that the abductors,apparently under sustained pressure from the police,released Ravi at an isolated place. After he was released by his abductors,Ravi contacted the police who brought him over to Patna,the DSP said.

Fishermans body to be brought back

VADODARA: The body of Gujarat-based fisherman Rambhai K Vala,who died at a Karachi hospital on May 28 after being arrested by the Pakistan marine authorities in November 2011,would be brought back to India on Monday. Valas body would be flown back to Mumbai and handed over to Gujarats fisheries department officials. The body will then be taken to Tad village in Junagadh district,which is the deceaseds native place.

E-mail alert stops minors marriage

KANCHIPURAM: An e-mail alert to District Collector Hanish Chandra helped stop the marriage of a 16-year-old girl on Sunday. Officials warned the families of the bride and the bridegroom against conducting the marriage. The families when they tried convincing the officials that such marriages were common in their community were told they will be penalised if they went ahead with the marriage.

Kolkata local train derails,no casualty

KOLKATA: Passengers had a narrow escape on Sunday,when two compartments of a local train got derailed at Ballygunge station here,disrupting suburban rail services. No casualty was reported. A couple of passengers who jumped off the train in panic suffered minor injuries. The train was moving at a slow speed when the derailment occurred.

300 tourists rescued from pass in Leh

SRINAGAR: Over 300 tourists and 100 locals trapped at Chang La Pass in Leh district due to a landslide were rescued on Sunday. A senior police official said that over 100 vehicles were stranded and that the civil administration,police and the Army had launched a joint rescue operation to create an alternative road to evacuate the trapped people.

Actor Rajesh Khanna discharged

MUMBAI: Rajesh Khanna,who had been admitted to Lilavati hospital here on June 23,was discharged on Sunday morning,hospital sources said. Khanna had to be admitted to the private hospital due to exhaustion and weakness. His estranged wife Dimple Kapadia also confirmed the news. Recently,Khanna had appeared in his first television ad for Havells fan,directed by filmmaker R Balki.
