Car gets washed away,12 killed
Hyderabad: Twelve people,including six children and five women,died when the vehicle they were travelling in was washed away by a swollen stream in Andhra Pradeshs Guntur district Tuesday evening. Police said one person is still missing. The vehicle was carrying 16 people,police said,adding that in spite of being warned against crossing by locals as the Malledavagu stream was overflowing and the culvert may have been damaged after the heavy rains,the driver Kasu Anil did not heed.
Wanted bootlegger held in Gujarat
RAJKOT: Police Wednesday arrested Nagdan Gadhvi,one of the most wanted bootleggers in Gujarat,busting his wide network spread in Maharahtra,Punjab and Rajasthan.Gadhvi smuggled a whopping Rs 22 crore worth alcohol between April 2010 and November 2010,earning a profit of Rs 4 crore,police said,adding he had recorded each rupee of his earning in his laptop. Gadhvi was wanted in more than 100 cases of bootlegging,criminal conspiracy,bribe and forgery.
Former Rajasthan DGP commits suicide
JAIPUR: Former Rajasthan DGP Shantanu Kumar,67,allegedly committed suicide Wednesday night in Jaipur. Kumar,a close relative of former External Affairs Minister Natwar Singh,became DGP in 1998. Senior police officials said that Kumar may have taken his life by consuming insecticide.
Dass album gets Grammy nomination
NEW DELHI: Off The Map,an album featuring Indian Tabla artist Sandeep Das,has won a Grammy nomination for the 8216;Best Classical Crossover Album8217;. Das,one of the prominent artistes from India,features in Sulvasutra,which is about the creation of the world. The piece was specially written for him by a commission of Carnegie Hall. Das is working with multiple Grammy-winning cellist Yo-Yo Ma for the past 10 years. His previous album The Rain was also nominated for Grammy in 2004.

Rouvanjit: Teachers appeal admitted
KOLKATA: A Kolkata court Wednesday admitted the appeal of the four teachers accused in the suicide case of Rouvanjit Rawla. Sunirmal Chakrabarti,principal of La Martiniere and teachers,L G Gunion,David Ryon and Partha Dutta,challenged the order which directed to prosecute them under 305 abatement to suicide of juvenile passed by the 12 Metropolitan Magistrate on November 19. The case will now come up for hearing on December 10. The four are currently out on bail.
