Extradited Israeli druglord to be quizzed by CBI
PANAJI: The CBI on Sunday said it will begin formal interrogation of Israeli druglord Yaniv Benaim alias Atala next week after getting his custody. CBI DIG Pravin Salunke said the agency will file an application seeking the Israelis custody in the court on Monday. Atala,a prime link in the Goa Police-drug mafia nexus cases,was extradited from Peru on Friday and presented before the court here,which remanded him in 14-day judicial custody. Salunke said he will come from Mumbai to interrogate Atala. The CBI is investigating three cases where policemen are suspected to be involved in rackets run by Israeli drug lords Atala and David Driham alias Dudu.
Landslides disrupt Gangotri yatra again
DEHRADUN: The pilgrimage to the Himalayan shrine of Gangotri was disrupted again on Sunday due to landslides in Nalupani area in Uttarkashi district,officials said. The route to Gangotri temple has been repeatedly hit by landslides this month,they said. The Gangotri national highway had remained closed for 12 consecutive days from August 7 due to landslides in Sainj area where an 80-metre stretch of road was washed away. However,the yatra to three other shrines of Badrinath,Kedarnath and Yamunotri was on,they said.
Man kills gay partner,surrenders in Gujarat
RAJKOT: A 32-year-old man,who had surrendered before the Morbi police on Saturday after allegedly stabbing his gay partner to death,was sent to judicial custody on Sunday. Police said Dinesh Kanani and the deceased,Uttam Manani were neighbours. The body with over 10 wounds was recovered from a house at Green Chowk belonging to Kananis parents, said a police official,adding that a knife was also recovered from the spot. Police said,on Saturday,Kanani called his partner to his parents old house for a private meeting and allegedly killed him.
Bihar: Abducted man rescued,3 arrested
NAWADA BIHAR: Police on Sunday rescued an abducted man from a forest area near Rajgir and nabbed the three kidnappers,a police official said. Acting on a complaint Ramanand Chaudharys kins that he has been kidnapped by four armed abductors and taken to a forest area near Rajgir,a Nagar police station team raided the hideout and rescued Chaudhary,DSP Ravish Kumar said. The police also arrested three kidnappers from another place,he said.
UP: Forest guards kill criminal youth
LAKHIMPUR UP: A 25-year-old man,allegedly involved in illegal felling of trees,was on Sunday killed in firing by forest department personnel in Gola range forests of South Kheri division,an official said. Rakesh,a known criminal,was killed after the forest field staff retaliated to firing by him and his accomplices Sunday morning, Divisional Forest Officer Ramesh Chandra Jha said. He added the firing took place when the forest staff spotted Rakesh and his accomplices felling trees illegally.
