Paresh Barua aide held ahead of ULFA martyrs day
Guwahati: In a blow to the anti-talk ULFA faction led by Paresh Barua,security forces on Tuesday arrested his right-hand-man Arun Udoy Dehotia. Dehotia alias Ritwik Hazarika is the second lieutenant in the outfits 27 Battalion. His arrest by a unit of the Assam Rifles comes a day after the Union Home Ministrys advisory to Assam to step up security in view of the ULFAs martyrs day on July 27.
SC extends stay on AICTE guidelines
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended its stay on the AICTE guidelines to regulate admission,fees and curriculum of private management colleges offering Post Graduate Diploma in Management courses for the year 2012-13. The court also gave AICTE a go-ahead for its proposed national-level exam for admission in management institutes. The bench said one national exam could be brought in place of the existing five national-level entrance examinations permitted by it earlier.
Militants kill couple in Manipur
IMPHAL: A 35-year-old man and his wife were shot dead in front of their three children at an isolated village in Manipurs Ukhrul district bordering Myanmar,a delayed official report said on Tuesday. The report said about six suspected militants in military uniform barged into the house of Vareingam Mahonao Shimray,a teacher and a NREGS worker,and gunned down Shimray and his wife,Ngaherla 33 on Sunday night. No individual or group has claimed responsibility.
Sanjay Dutt to stay away from politics
MUMBAI: Actor Sanjay Dutt,who was briefly associated with a political party,wants to stay away from politics as he finds acting in Bollywood better. I had gone to UP for three months. I think acting in Bollywood is better than acting on the dais, Dutt said in an interview. He had earlier resigned as SP general secretary expressing sadness over the way mentor Amar Singh was treated.
