Sohrabuddin: Court defers case transfer

AHMEDABAD: A special CBI magisterial court on Tuesday deferred the transfer of the 2005 Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encounter case to trial court following a request made by the central agency. Additional CJM A Y Dave,passed the order after CBI filed an application requesting the court not to commit the fake encounter case to trial court. The accused in the case include former Gujarat Home Minister Amit Shah,suspended IPS officers D G Vanzara,Rajkumar Pandiyan,Dinesh M N and Abhay Chudasama and others.

Nanavati panel gets 16th extension

GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat government has extended the term of Nanavati Commission,probing the 2002 riots in the state,for the sixteenth time. The term of the panel,comprising retired Justices G T Nanavati and Akshay Mehta,has been extended to December 31,2011,sources said. The term was to get over on June 30,2011. O L Pandey,Secretary,State Legal department told The Indian Express,We have issued an order for extension of the Nanavati Commission few days back.
