Sadiq encounter: CBI registers case
Ahmedabad: The CBI has registered a case related to the alleged fake encounter of Sadiq Jamal Mehtar in 2003 by the Gujarat Police,an official statement on the agencys website said. The case was registered by the agency on Saturday on the directions of the Gujarat High Court. A Special Investigation Team has been constituted by the CBI under a Joint Director and investigation is continuing, the statement added. The case has been registered against police officials of Gujarat and Maharashtra and others.
Train bogie derails,traffic disrupted
Fatehpur UP: A bogie of a goods train derailed near Ramwa station here on Sunday afternoon,disrupting rail traffic on the route. The train was on its way to Allahabad,Railway officials said,adding that the bogie derailed after one of its wheels broke. Last Sunday,Delhi-bound Kalka Mail derailed near Malwan,around 120 kilometres from Lucknow,killing nearly 70 passengers.
10 months on,bodies of 8 trekkers located
Dehradun: The bodies of eight trekkers,who went missing last year due to bad weather,have been located in Uttarkashi district and a 30-member team of disaster management and National Institute of Mountaineering officials was dispatched to bring them back on Sunday. On July 12,a team of district officials went to search the bodies after a trekking team from West Bengal on its way to Satopanth sighted two tents with bodies inside near Sita Glacier last week. Kunal Rana,head of mountaineering institute,confirmed sighting the bodies near Vasukital area,disaster management officials said.
Rs 5 crore in cash,gold for Sai temple
Shirdi: A record cash of Rs 3.75 crore and gold ornaments and other objects worth Rs 1.25 crore were received by Shri Saibaba Sansthan here from the devotees during the three days of Guru Purnima celebrations,Sansthan sources said. Over 2.5 lakh pilgrims visited the temple during the celebrations from July 14 to 16,they added.
Terror threat: Alert in Meghalaya
Shillong: A tribal militant organisation on Sunday threatened to carry out blasts in important towns across Meghalaya,prompting a security alert in the entire state. The self-styled c-in-c of Garo National Liberation Army called up media houses in the morning and threatened to carry out blasts in crowded places in Shillong,Tura,Williamnagar and Baghmara if operations against it were not stopped by Monday. Following the threat,a security alert has been sounded in the entire state,said the police.
Three drown in Tirumurthy dam
Coimbatore: Three men drowned in Tirumurthy dam in Tirupur district on Sunday when they tried to take a bath,the police said. Prakash,Sharief and Ashok,all aged 23,were part of a 12-member marriage party from Coimbatore,who had gone to attend a wedding near Udumalpet,about 70 km from here. As they tried to take a bath in the dam,they slipped and were dragged down in the undercurrents,the police said.
