Food inflation to ease next month: Montek
New Delhi: The Planning Commission has said food inflation will come down next month from a more than a decades high of around 20 per cent,as apprehensions about adverse effect of drought were easing. I think this fear of negative impact of drought being reduced,there will be a softening in food price inflation in the next month, Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia told reporters here.
India not a standout overspender: Montek
New Delhi: Refusing to be drawn into the debate over when should stimulus packages be withdrawn,the Planning Commission on Monday said India will not stand out in the world as an overspender despite the rise in the fiscal deficit because of the sops. For the first time in 2009-10 so far,Indias combined fiscal deficit is actually lower than both the US and UK, Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said here.
FinMin notifies trade opening pacts
New Delhi: India on Monday said it has operationalised trade-opening pacts with South Korea and three key Asean countries Singapore,Thailand and Malaysia by slashing duties on hundreds of products,including seafood,chemicals,apparel and tyres. The notifications were issued by the Central Board of Excise and Customs.
JSW Energy closes up a paltry 0.75pc on BSE
Mumbai: Dismal listing woes continued to haunt the markets on the first listing of the year with JSW Energy ending the day with a meagre 0.75 per cent gain over its issue price of Rs 100 on Monday on the BSE. The share of JSW Energy closed at Rs 100.75,up 0.75 per cent over the issue price.
Ceat hikes stake in Sri Lankan JV to 54.84 pc
Mumbai: Tyre maker Ceat Ltd on Monday said it has hiked its stake in the companys Sri Lankan joint venture (JV) Associated CEAT Holdings Company Pvt Ltd (ACHL) to 54.84 per cent by acquiring 36.84 per cent more stake in the firm. The company has acquired 36,84,211 equity shares of ACHL and Ceats shareholding in ACHL has now increased to 54.84 per cent.
Cement sales zoom in December
New Delhi: Leading cement makers have reported up to 60 per cent increase in sales in December 2009 over the same month last year on the back of pick up in demand from real estate and infrastructure sectors. Major cement firms like Jaiprakash Associates,Shree Cements,Dalmia Cements and Shiva Cement reported double-digit growth.
