BMC has returned a Rs 5 lakh cheque Shiv Sena had given it for using public money for the funeral of Bal Thackeray.
The government had decided to give Thackeray a state funeral. We spent funds as per this decision. As such,we have returned the cheque to Uddhav Thackeray, said municipal commissionr Sitaram Kunte.

About a fortnight ago,the G-North ward officer had sought post-facto approval for public funds used to install CCTV cameras,LED screens and make other arrangements for the funeral. Mayor Sunil Prabhu justified the spend,saying the government had decided to cremate Thackeray with state honours.
