The government is likely to move a new bill in the Parliament to give more teeth to the Comptroller and Auditor General CAG by bringing Panchayati Raj institutions PRIs,non-government organisations NGOs and public-private-partnership entities PPP under its purview. The new bill will replace the CAG Act 1971 and will allow the auditor to seek information from various branches of the government in a time-bound manner just as under the right to information RTI Act.

We expect it to be tabled in the coming session of Parliament, CAG Vinod Rai said on Monday on the sidelines of the 25th Accountants General Conference 2010.
