Paramjit Singh Bheora,the last accused in the 1995 assassination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh,was sentenced to life imprisonment by a special Chandigarh Court here on Tuesday,bringing to an end the 14-year-long trial in the case.
While two accused,including mastermind Jagtar Singh Hawara and Balwant Singh,have been given capital punishment,three others were sentenced to life in jail. Another accused was sentenced to a 10-year jail term under the Explosive Substances Act.
While pronouncing the quantum of sentence,the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Ravi Kumar Sondhi ordered that Bheora be given life sentence,and imposed a fine of Rs 65,000 under different sections he was charged with.
