For nine months since he first stepped in,meeting villagers here in May last year,Rahul Gandhi talked of Bhatta-Parsaul while attacking the land acquisition policy of the BSP government.
But the people of Jewar, the constituency under which Bhatta and Parsaul fall, dealt a blow to all Congress expectations as they voted for sitting BSP MLA Ved Ram Bhati. People in Bhatta said one of the main reasons for the loss of the Congress candidate was that after May 2011,Rahul never once returned to the village.
Om Veer Singh, pradhan of Bhatta, said,It is true that the violence in May would have been much worse if Rahul had not stepped in. But several people in the village felt betrayed by the fact that he never returned to check if our problem of land was resolved. His candidate Dhirendra Singh too never come to us with a concrete promise. People felt that Rahul used our village for political mileage.
