Bhanot,Verma denied bail

Special Judge Talwant Singh also extended their judicial custody till April 21

A Delhi court on Friday dismissed the bail plea of former officials of the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee Lalit Bhanot and V K Verma.

Bhanot,former OC secretary general,and V K Verma,ex-director general of OC,were arrested on February 23 for alleged irregularities in awarding contract to a Swiss firm for providing logistic support for the event.

Special Judge Talwant Singh also extended their judicial custody till April 21.

The two were arrested in connection with the Rs 107-crore deal with Swiss Timing Ltd in procuring the contract of Timing,Scoring and Result system for the Games. The CBI claimed they were instrumental in allotment of the contract to the firm in a pre-planned manner at an exorbitant rate of Rs 107 crore,thereby causing a huge loss to the government.
