Assocham unveils 15-point economic agenda ahead of elections

Rawat would meet representatives of various political parties to present the 15-point suggestion.

Trade body Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India today unveiled a 15-point economic agenda for consideration by political parties in their election manifestos for the next year’s assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.

The objective of the first of its kind exercise done in a state before election was to motivate political parties to include various economic issues in their manifestos,Assocham General Secretary D S Rawat said.

Rawat said soon he would meet representatives of various political parties in the state and present the 15-point suggestion before them.

Among major recommendations made by the industry body include accelerating economic activities,private-public participation in services,industrial and agricultural sectors to promote new employment opportunities and giving priority to development of MSME sector,he said.

He said it has also been suggested to promote rice mills,powerloom,leather industry,food processing,garments and zari on cluster development model.

Rawat said while attracting private investment by the private sector in agriculture,contract farming should also be promoted.

He said Assocham has also suggested setting up of an international finance technology city at Noida.

The political parties should develop consensus on taking the state on the path of development through cluster development,he said.

Stating that power crisis was the biggest hurdle in progress of industries in Uttar Pradesh,Assocham has therefore suggested setting up of nuclear power plants there.

“We hope that the next government in the state will set up at least two nuclear power plants in the state”,he said.

He said the state government should promote the tourism and hospitality service sector by wooing foreign investments.

He said Assocham was of the opinion that a clear policy should be implemented for land acquisition wherein there should be direct interaction with the seller and buyer with the government’s role being minimum.
