April car sales up 4.2 per cent

Companies sold 102,899 cars during the month,compared with 98,752 cars a year ago.

Car sales in India rose an annual 4.2 per cent in April,an industry body said on Monday,helped by improving financing and demand from rural markets. Companies sold 102,899 cars during the month,compared with 98,752 cars a year ago,data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers SIAM showed.

Sales of trucks and buses,which track the pace of economic activity,fell 11.3 per cent to 29,842 units,the data showed.
