Apex court raps Centre for letting Buta keep bungalow

It said that there was no nexus between security threat and government accommodation.

The Supreme Court Thursday criticised the Centre for allowing former Bihar Governor Buta Singh to continue in a government bungalow in Delhi and asked the former Chairman of the National Commission for Scheduled Caste if he was willing to vacate the premises on his own by June 30.

Cesnuring the estate department for its “pick and choose” policy while evicting unauthorised occupants, the court disapproved that Singh,a former union minister, was provided with the government accommodation because of the threat perception. It said that there was no nexus between security threat and government accommodation.

It questioned the government for regularising the allotment of 11-A Teen Murti Marg in favour of Singh, whose three-year term as the Chairman of the Commission ended in 2010.

The bench, which posted the matter for further hearing on April 8,said,“Grave injustice has been done to all poor people” who have been forced to vacate their premises while some got regularisation of their unauthorised occupation.
