The all-party meet on the Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation and Resettlement Bill on Thursday remained inconclusive with the parties deciding to meet again on March 20 after studying various aspects of the Bill and its amendments.
After some members objected to certain provisions of the proposed legislation and others said they were yet to examine it thoroughly,Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh and Parliamentary Affiars Minister Kamal Nath said they would send copies of the Bill to all political parties for their reference.
During the meeting,CPMs Basudeb Acharia said the Bill,given the large number of amendments moved,should be sent to a Standing or Select Committee which can study the amendments and submit a report to the House.
While the parties claimed over 180 amendments to the Bill had already been circulated,Ramesh and Nath said the number was far lower around 28 after removing all technical amendments. The government had moved 157 amendments to the Bill in the winter session,which was introduced in September 2011 last year and referred to a Parliamentary Standing Committee which submitted its recommendations in May last year.
There are 200-odd amendments to be moved8230; so it should be sent to a select committee8230;, said senior CPM leader Sitaram Yechury.
