If Prime Minister Manmohan Singh is to be questioned by the CBI,his predecessors and ministers who held the coal portfolio between 1993 and 2009 should also be questioned,Information and Broadcasting Iamp;B minister Manish Tewari said Monday.
He was reacting to Kamal Naths comment that should CBI make a formal request, the PM would make himself available for questioning.
We must keep in mind the prime minister is the executive head of the government and before any matter comes to his attention,it goes through vetting and filtering at various levels. If at all a conjecture or an insinuation be made with regard to the prime minister,we must keep in mind that coal allocation covers 1993 to 2009 and during this period, former prime ministers, and ministers from other political parties, have held the ministry8230;There cannot be exceptions, he said.
Singh,he added, has an impeccable track record and his integrity has never been questioned before the present attempts to politicise the issue, though Singh had extensively spoken on it inside and outside Parliament.
The statement comes two days after BJP leaders Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley accused the government of trying to sabotage investigation into missing coal block allocation files and sought to know why the PM is not being questioned.
