Agra researchers murder: Student, lab technician held

With the arrest of a student and a laboratory technician, the Agra police on Tuesday claimed to have solved the murder of 27-year-old researcher Neha Sharma, whose body was found in the laboratory of Dayal Bagh Educational Institute on March 15.

Uday Swaroop,21,a final year student of B.Sc at the institute, and 35-year-old Yashveer Singh Sandhu,a laboratory technician, were both arrested in connection with the case, with Agra SSP Subhash Chandra Dubey claiming that the murder was not planned.

Dubey alleged that Swaroop killed the girl after attempting to rape her, while Sandhu helped him destroy the evidence. Both the accused were produced before a local court which sent them to judicial custody. The SSP said they would seek seven-day police remand of the accused.

The Agra police alleged that Swaroop had been infatuated with Neha and she had reportedly informed her family of his unusual behaviour.

On Monday,a forensic report confirmed that the blood-smeared hair strands found at the site of the murder matched the sample provided by Swaroop, the police said. The police believe Neha pulled Swaroops hair during a scuffle in the laboratory. Agra Circle Officer Sameer Saurabh said that two witnesses had also seen Sandhu take away Nehas car from the institute campus after the murder.
