Afzal Guru should be punished: Farooq

Whether it is Mirwaiz or chief of Hurriyats hardline faction,Syed Ali Shah Geelani,we all are Indians, Abdullah said.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah opposes hanging parliament attack convict Afzal Guru as,he fears,it would fan the separatist fires in Kashmir, but his father,Union minister Farooq Abdullah, doesnt agree.

As an Indian,I believe in only one thing: that whosoever has worked against the country should be punished, Abdullah,a former chief minister, said Saturday. Gurus petition is pending before the President and it is for her to take a decision.

Omar has quite a few times in the past spoken out and tweeted against hanging Guru, much to the outrage of the likes of the BJP and the Shiv Sena and to the discomfort of many in the Congress,a partner in his government.

Abdullah also lashed out against the chief of the moderate Hurriyat Conference,Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, accusing him of hypocrisy. Mirwaiz,Abdullah alleged, talks about Azadi and Pakistan in his Friday sermons but travels abroad on an Indian passport.

Whether it is Mirwaiz or chief of Hurriyats hardline faction,Syed Ali Shah Geelani,we all are Indians, Abdullah said. There are some issues with the Government of India and we have different opinion on them in a democracy, but that does not mean that we should speak against the country8230; and there shall be no compromise on it.
