Accused was a regular at shakhas, knew Joshi

Kamal Chauhan, taken into custody by the NIA in connection with the Samjhauta Express blast case, was associated with slain RSS pracharak Sunil Joshi

Kamal Chauhan, taken into custody by the NIA in connection with the Samjhauta Express blast case, was associated with slain RSS pracharak Sunil Joshi and rarely stayed at his home in Moorkheda village, about 40 km from Indore. NIA claims he was one of the persons who planted the briefcases containing explosives.

The only son in a family owning at least 30 bighas of land,Chauhan was a regular at RSS shakhas, sources in the Depalpur region said.

In his late 20s,Chauhan had been questioned by the NIA six months ago. So when the police called him to come to the Depalpur police station three days ago,the family thought he would return in a couple of hours.

The NIA left a written application at the police station before whisking Kamal away and did not share any information with the local police.

The family on Monday accused both the NIA and the police of illegally detaining Kamal and keeping them in the dark about his whereabouts. Kamals advocate Vikram Dubey said a habeas corpus plea was moved before the Madhya Pradesh High Court, and another application was moved before a court in Depalpur against the local police.

Kamals father Radheshyam said his son was innocent and that the investigating authorities had framed him. The family said Kamal would have escaped if he was really involved in any crime.
