Abducted BDM owner rescued

Kidnapped from Meerut,cops say 3 held; kin say no ransom paid

Less than 24 hours after he was kidnapped for ransom barely five km away from his house in Meerut,Sudhir Mahajan,64,Managing Director of BD Mahajan and Sons Pvt Ltd,a leading sports goods manufacturing company,was rescued from the forests of Sanauta in Meeruts Falawada area.

Meerut SSP K Satya Narayan claimed that the police rescued Mahajan following an encounter with his kidnappers,and they have arrested three accused,Sushil,Omveer and Manoj. He claimed that no ransom was paid by Mahajans family. The police are on the lookout for the driver,Ravinder,who masterminded the abduction. He was hired a month and a half ago without police verification.

Mahajans brother Rakesh confirmed the rescue and said that no ransom was paid. The abductors had demanded Rs two crore as ransom. The kidnappers made phone calls from Mahajans phone.

On Monday,while Mahajan was returning home,his car stopped all of a sudden. Ravinder told Mahajan that there was something wrong with the boot. Within minutes,two men came in and sat next to Mahajan and held a pistol to his head. He was blindfolded. They kept a pistol to Ravinders head as well, said a police officer based on Mahajans account. Ravinder had chosen his accomplices from his village. Mahajan,whose limbs were tied,was released by his abductors. He walked to the village,informed the locals,following which the police were called.

Its believed that the abduction took place around 9:30 pm. The abductors took the car with them. Mahajan was taken to jungles and held captive. Mahajan told the police that he later realised that Ravinder was missing.

His younger son Siddharth received an SMS from Mahajans phone at 10:30 pm from the abductors informing that the businessman had been kidnapped. Within minutes,the first ransom call came. The family informed the police immediately after the first SMS,and the police traced the location of the phone near the victims house. Next,the abductors called Mahajans elder son Aditya from his phone. Aditya said: I requested them to allow me to speak to father. They gave him the phone. My father was tense and worried.

The police found that Ravinders ID proof,mobile phone number and address proof were fake. STF sources said that Ravinders family members were picked up on Wednesday.
