Kalyan Singh
Bhairon Singh Shekhawat
Signalling his willingness to contest the Lok Sabha polls,he challenged the BJP8217;s choice of Advani as prime ministerial candidate,declaring that the issue was not yet clinched. He later drove to Advanis residence and had a cordial luncheon meeting.
Uma Bharti
Suspended from the BJP in 2004 following her public outburst against L K Advani. Expelled later in the year when she rebelled against Shivraj Singh Chouhan being appointed Madhya Pradesh chief minister.
Madan Lal Khurana
Suspended in March 2006 after he made public his decision to participate in Uma Bhartis rally. Had been gradually sidelined after he was made to give up the chief ministers post in the aftermath of the Hawala case in 1996.
K N Govindacharya
Credited with crafting the party8217;s 8220;social engineering8221; thesis,he quit the BJP in April 2003. He fell foul of the leadership,particularly Vajpayee,and his remark on the former prime minister being the party8217;s 8220;mukhauta8221; mask in 2002 was the last straw.
Keshubhai Patel
Ever since Narendra Modi dislodged Keshubhai Patel in 2001,Patel has served as a rallying point for Modi detractors in the party in Gujarat.
Yashwant Sinha
In June 2005,in the aftermath of the Jinnah controversy,he had asked L K Advani to quit as leader of the Opposition after the latter resigned as party chief. That year,the party had asked Sinha to refrain from raising issues through the media. He was also extremely vocal in his criticism of the Arjun Munda government of Jharkhand,accusing it of being corrupt and extravagant.
Kailash Joshi
The former Madhya Pradesh chief minister,the sitting MP from Bhopal,refused to give in to the party high commands decision to field Sushma Swaraj from the constituency. The party leadership finally agreed to field Sushma from Vidisha.
Gopinath Munde
He resigned as general secretary in April 2008 in protest against the appointment of Madhu Chavan as Mumbai party chief. He had also been sidelined by Maharashtra party chief Nitin Gadkari ever since the demise of his brother-in-law and Member of Parliament,Pramod Mahajan. However,he later withdrew his resignation.
Babulal Marandi
Forced to make way for Arjun Munda as Jharkhand Chief Minister in 2002,he later resigned from the BJP and floated the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha in 2006. Won the Koderma bypolls in 2006 as an Independent.
