A beacon of hope

Sarrtaj hopes that his debut film Khap will create an awareness about honour killings.

Sarrtaj hopes that his debut film Khap will create an awareness about honour killings.

Launch Vehicle
Khap,a movie based on honour killings in India and directed by Ajai Sinha,is my debut film. I play the role of Kush,an NRI from South Africa who comes to India to do his MBA. Kush meets Ria Yuvika Choudhary online and falls in love with her.

The two get married later but soon they start facing problems. Ria discovers that her father is asked to investigate the death of two teenagers who were victims of honour killings. Soon Ria and Kush are also pulled into the vortex of these inhuman customs. Khap is an honest film that tries to highlight the problem of honour killings in India. I was very lucky to bag a serious role in my debut film.

Casting Coup
A common friend sent my photographs to the director,Ajai Sinha, who called me to his office for an audition. In the first meeting itself,I was asked to read a couple of lines. It took me 30-45 minutes to get my lines right.

Stepping-Stone
I have done a couple of commercials for television and the Internet. I was very comfortable doing advertisements and never dreamed that I would get a chance to work in Bollywood. Films just happened.

First Shot
It was a shot where I confront a corrupt police officer. We were shooting at Wai,which is close to Panchgani and my hairstylist hadn8217;t turned up,so I had to style my hair. That was also the first time I met my co-star Yuvika Choudhary. I hadn8217;t been introduced to her before. I was a little nervous but eventually got my lines right.

Stumbling-Block
I am just one film old,so I haven8217;t actually witnessed any stumbling-blocks.

Lessons Learnt
I have learnt to be patient. Success doesn8217;t come quickly and I have realised that if I am not patient enough,I will not be able to survive in this industry. Trying to emulate someone else is the worst thing anyone can do to move ahead in his career. I have realised that I need to have an individual style and attitude to make my own identity.

Matinee Idol
If given a chance I would love to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Rajkumar Santoshi as I admire their films. I would also love to work again with Ajai Sinha.

Future Projects
I have been reading a couple of scripts. But I plan to wait till Khap releases before I decide on my future projects.
