9 new H1N1 cases reported

India reported nine fresh cases of the deadly H1N1 virus on Thursday,taking the total cases in the country to 44.

India reported nine fresh cases of the deadly H1N1 virus on Thursday,taking the total cases in the country to 44. Five cases have been reported in Delhi,including those of a woman and her six-year-old child who were infected by a family member who had tested positive earlier.

Three cases were reported in Bangalore,including that of a 12-year-old who reached Bangalore from Hong Kong on June 16. “All of them have been admitted in the isolated facilities and are under treatment. The contacts of the family have also been taken care of,” said a Health Ministry official. Two others,including a 48 year-old man who reached Bangalore from Korea on June 14,have also tested positive. A fresh case was reported from Hyderabad where an eight-year-old who had flown in from New Jersey is the latest victim.

In Bhubaneswar,Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said the Government had taken “effective” and “extraordinary” measures to contain the spread of the virus.
